China Mobile HK vs csl

China Mobile HK wins on cross-border value — native mainland coverage and free China numbers on bundled plans. csl counters with HKT's flagship network pedigree, in-building signal reputation, entertainment bundles and device financing.

Network & coverage

CMHK rides its parent's national network natively: inside mainland China your phone registers on China Mobile itself rather than a roaming partner, which is why rural-mainland reach is the deepest of any HK carrier. At home, third-party benchmarks (Opensignal, Nov 2024) put CMHK level with csl on overall coverage experience (8.7/10) and ahead of all four operators on 5G availability.

csl is the HKT (Telstra group) flagship brand with a long-standing reputation for in-building penetration on dense urban Hong Kong. Its 5G runs at full speed including standalone and mmWave where deployed — unlike most budget plans, there are no artificial speed caps on mainstream tiers.

Pricing & contracts

CMHK positions aggressively on price: local 5G entry plans have sat around HK$98/month, "one-card-two-places" bundles from roughly HK$149 and three-place (HK+CN+Macau) from about HK$199, typically on 12–24 month terms. csl remains contract-led — 24/36-month commitments with an HK$18/month admin fee — and street prices only approach sub-brand territory on promotional tiers.

Device financing matters here: csl sells handset instalment bundles through its stores that CMHK largely doesn't match, so total cost of ownership can flip depending on whether you buy a phone alongside the plan.

Cross-border & extras

This is CMHK's home turf: one-card-two-number plans bundle a free +86 mainland number with shared CN data (roughly HK$139–159 on 24 months), and a secondary-number add-on costs around HK$18/month otherwise. Dedicated elderly and student plans round out the value story.

csl answers with ecosystem perks rather than border features: Now TV channel packs, The Club loyalty points, HKT Wi-Fi hotspot access, paid Additional SIM sharing and full walk-in retail servicing across its store network.

China Mobile HK

Choose CMHK if you cross the border weekly, want the cheapest credible 5G contracts, or need a mainland number without carrying two phones.

csl

Choose csl if in-building signal tops your list, you want Now TV/bundle perks or handset financing, or you value face-to-face service.

FAQs

Which operator works better inside mainland China?

CMHK — it registers directly onto parent China Mobile's national network instead of a commercial roaming agreement, giving the widest rural-mainland footprint of any Hong Kong carrier.

Are both networks 5G at full speed?

On their main postpaid lines yes; neither throttles mainstream 5G tiers. Budget sub-brands (SoSIM, Lucky SIM etc.) are where speed caps appear — those aren't compared on this page.

Methodology

How this mobile-plan list is built

DealSifu ranks live Hong Kong mobile plans from public provider data, then keeps the source and review trail visible so you can sanity-check each deal.

  • Sources: Operator and MVNO websites, offer pages and published plan terms are the primary sources.
  • Ranking: Default sorting uses the current effective monthly price, then lets you filter by data, network, eSIM, contract and provider.
  • Caveat: Promotions and retention offers can change quickly, so always confirm the final price with the provider before switching.
  • Freshness: Changed rows are reviewed before publishing, and each plan card links back to the stored source where available.
