Hong Kong No-Contract Plans: Prices and Number Porting

Hong Kong No-Contract Plans: Prices and Number Porting

Compare the total cost of flexible mobile plans and keep your existing number through MNP. Check the billing period, upfront payment and exit rules before choosing; a no-contract offer can still have prepaid amounts or rebates to lose.

Compare no-contract monthly and prepaid alternatives

Prices and public terms checked on 26 September 2026. This is a comparison of published offers, not a network or overseas SMS test. Carrier links are provided beside the relevant claims.

For local monthly use, start by comparing SoSIM and Club SIM; for regular mainland use, examine CUniq’s shared-data tiers; for a monthly service with higher post-allowance speed, compare Birdie’s 60GB offer. These are editorial starting points based on published allowances and terms, not a coverage ranking. A no-contract label does not waive the final bill, notice rules or lost prepayments.

Plan / official sourceRecurring fee and dataEntry cost and main caveat
SoSIM basic local packHK$48 / 30 days; 60GB FUP, 5,000 HK call minutes.Prepaid, not a calendar-month bill. Starter purchase and MNP promotions differ; data and SIM expiry are separate.
Club SIM 4.5G no-contractHK$58 / 1 month for 20GB; HK$88 / 40GB; HK$128 / 80GB. Unlimited local voice.42Mbps before the allowance; no admin fee advertised. Choose port-in in the app; check renewal and post-allowance terms.
Birdie 60GBHK$148 / month standard; 60GB, then up to 21Mbps.Current prepay offer: HK$296 for first 3 months, then HK$148/month; conditional, not a permanent HK$99 rate. eSIM sign-up currently paused.
CUniq GO Monthly prepaidHK$48 / 3GB, HK$98 / 8GB, HK$138 / 25GB, HK$228 / 70GB, HK$298 / 100GB; every 30 days, mainland + HK shared.Upfront 3/6/9/12/18-period options: the pack rate is not the checkout total. HK$9 admin fee can apply when balance cannot fund renewal.

The table is a source-checked shortlist. Live catalogue cards below may show different older allowances; use the linked provider offer and your final quote before signing up. For CUniq, verify the selected prepaid option has no minimum commitment and ask how remaining credit is treated on exit. Online sign-up or “no address proof” alone does not establish a right to cancel without cost.

What prepayment discounts really save

Birdie’s displayed 60GB offer collects HK$296 for three months: HK$98.67 a month on average, followed by HK$148. At unchanged prices, the first 12 months cost HK$296 + 9 × HK$148 = HK$1,628, before extras. The PREPAYBB terms run to 31 December 2026, with quotas and eligible new subscriptions. Porting out or terminating during the rebate period forfeits prepaid amounts and unused benefits. The separate TC-T71 offer also requires eligible-card autopay; cancellation or failure of autopay ends its rebate. Compare the exact offer you select.

CUniq’s NEWSIM offer applies to the first prepaid amount for eligible new website subscriptions from 6 January to 31 October 2026. The discount ranges from 10% to 20% by tier and prepayment length; it is not a permanent discount on every renewal. Paying more upfront may lower the promotional rate while leaving more cash at risk if you switch early.

Monthly is different from every 30 days

Twelve 30-day packs cover only 360 days. Starting with no existing entitlement, 365 continuous days need 13 packs: HK$48 × 13 = HK$624. A HK$58 monthly pack renewed 12 times costs HK$696 for 12 monthly periods. The comparison is about billing and cash paid, not identical allowances; initial promotions, required prepayments and leftover credit change your actual first-year cash flow.

Use the calculator below with the current quoted fee, the correct billing period, exit/setup charges and lost rebates. Record required upfront credit separately if it remains in the new account: the calculator estimates service cost and does not model every prepaid balance movement.

Keep your number: the transfer checklist

  1. Check the current holder’s name, identity record, contract end and final charges. An old fixed-term agreement still matters even if the new plan is no-contract.
  2. Apply through the receiving carrier’s port-in route with matching holder details and real-name verification. Keep the old line active.
  3. Receive and prepare the replacement SIM/eSIM, confirm the cutover date, then test incoming calls, SMS/OTPs and data after switching.

OFCA says the old operator does not charge for MNP itself but the new operator may charge. General processing is 1–2 days; Birdie advises about 7 days for its process. Keep the old number active and allow for a service interruption at the scheduled cutover.

Only need to keep a number while away?

A recurring local-data plan can be unnecessary if most months are spent outside Hong Kong. Compare number validity and overseas SMS support separately from data: a long-validity holding plan can be a better fit, while business visitors can add data for each stay.

Will switching lower your phone bill?

Compare monthly rolling plans against your current bill. Include extra monthly charges and any exit or setup fees before deciding.

Choose a matching plan and enter valid, non-negative amounts.

Enter the provider’s current quoted price and billing period; catalogue prices may be older. The estimate covers 12 calendar months, or 365 days with 13 full payments for a 30-day renewal. Unused days are not refunded in this estimate. Promotions, fair-use limits and future price changes can affect the result.

Before you switch
  • Check your contract end date, notice requirements, outstanding instalments and any exit charges with your current provider.
  • Ask the new provider to confirm number-porting arrangements before cancelling an existing number.
