After registration, keep the application reference, original application date, responsible worker’s contact and a record of the service and home choices. These are more useful when calling about progress than the latest territory-wide average waiting time.
Active and inactive are different
SWD’s waiting-list notes explain that inactive residential-care applicants are not called for admission. This can apply when a person takes up community care or chooses inactive status. They may later seek reactivation; offers then follow the original application date, subject to valid assessment results. Do not confuse inactive status with a place being reserved at a particular home.
If the family is ready for a move, ask the responsible worker to check the actual status rather than assuming it changed when a service ended. If the person is doing well at home, discuss what keeping the application inactive means and when a review would be needed.
Changes worth reporting
- A hospital admission, a new discharge plan or a material change in day-to-day help needed.
- The loss of a carer, a carer’s inability to continue, or a move that changes access to support.
- A new phone number, address, main family contact or backup contact.
- A change in acceptable homes, districts or service choices. Ask how it affects the application before confirming it.
The assessment mechanism allows existing users to seek appropriate referral when services no longer meet their needs. Describe what changed and when; do not try to translate a diagnosis into a care category yourself.
When an offer arrives
Confirm the home, service type, fee, room arrangement, decision deadline and admission date with the worker. Ask what happens if you decline or need more information. Do not let the deadline pass while waiting for a brochure. If the home says it cannot meet the documented needs, bring that issue back to the worker promptly.
Vouchers and Guangdong trial stays
Different schemes have their own effects on the waiting-list application. Before starting a voucher or Mainland trial stay, get the exact status change, trial end date and reactivation or closure rules from the responsible worker. Keep that explanation with the offer. “My original date is kept” and “I am currently receiving offers” are not the same statement.
